Changing your name is an exciting step — but getting every organisation to update their records can quickly become a slow and frustrating process. Most official bodies (like your bank, HM Passport Office, or DVLA) won’t accept a photocopy of your Deed Poll. They need an original official copy.
Here’s where it gets tricky: if you only have one original, you’ll need to send it off to one organisation at a time — and then wait for it to be returned. This can be time-consuming, especially if they take weeks to process your request. Worse still, documents sometimes get lost in the post, leaving you without a Deed Poll altogether.
